Description
Dr Chiara Candelise is an experienced energy economist. She is currently a researcher at Imperial College London and University of Edinburgh and has been working on techno-economic, innovation and policy issues surrounding photovoltaics (PV) since 2005. Her research interests span from techno-economic assessment of PV technologies, including novel PV technologies, to the economic and policy conditions for the implementation of PV and distributed renewable energy. Her PhD thesis studied technical and regulatory development needed to move PV from a niche position to mass deployment within the UK electricity sector. She has been working since on the techno-economic and market assessment of thin film technologies within the UK academic and industrial consortium PV Supergen 21 – PV Materials for the 21st Century, where she dealt with engineering, manufacturing and market assessment, with particular attention to cost reduction potential, materials scarcity, improved manufacturability and products differentiation. She has previously worked as economist for several private and public institutions, including the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), where she dealt with various climate change and air quality projects. She has contributed to several research projects including the UK Energy Research Centre “Energy 2050” project and the Intelligence Energy Europe (IEE) BioSolEsco Project. She has an MSc from University College London and a PhD from Imperial College. She is a member of UK ISES and Imperial Solar Network, Imperial College London.
