Eight19 commissions new roll-to-roll printing facility

Adding to the growing number of solar manufacturing facilities in the UK, organic solar cell developer Eight19 has commissioned a new development and roll-to-roll printing facility at its Cambridge headquarters. The new line is expected to optimise the processes necessary for high-volume organic solar cell production.

Solar Frontier wins bid for world’s largest commercial CIS plant in California

Solar Frontier has defied the thin-film doom merchants by successfully bidding for the role of module supplier for enXco’s 100MWp+ PV plant in California. The agreement refers to the supply of up to 150MWp of Solar Frontier’s CIS modules, and the project, when completed, will be the largest thin-film CI(G)S plant in the world.

Renewable Heat Incentive: Phase 2 rollout will be delayed

Although the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) was made available to the industrial, business and public sector on November 28, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is thought to be at a relatively early stage in putting together its proposals for phase 2.

New world record for cadmium-telluride

First Solar has announced today that it has achieved 14.4 percent total area efficiency for its CdTe (cadmium-telluride) PV modules. The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) confirmed the record, which eclipsed the prior record of 13.4 percent, which also was set by First Solar.

Four California military bases could produce 7GW of PV, according to study

Sunfest Solar provides manufacturing boost for the North East

SMA Solar reports €1.7 billion in sales for 2011; market share declines

Citing an intensely competitive market environment, SMA Solar Technology, the leading PV inverter manufacturer, reported preliminary full-year financial results of €1.7 billion in sales for 2011. SMA Solar had previously cut €200 million from its previous forecast of €1.9 billion to €1.7 billion, with results therefore coming in at the lowered figure. SMA Solar reported 2010 sales of €1.9 billion. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were reported as being more than €240 million
